GORDON STOKOE BIO

Gordon Stokoe is the sole proprietor of the practice, in operation since 1998. Prior to setting up GSA, he was employed in architectural offices in Nova Scotia and Ottawa for 12 years and involved in a range of residential, commercial and institutional projects (e.g. Hopewell Ave School addition, Ottawa - see pictures below). He holds a degree in fine arts (BFA, NSCAD, 1971) a professional architectural degree (BArch, TUNS, 1982) and a post-graduate architectural degree (MArch, U of T, 1986).

Throughout his educational and working career in architecture, his primary interest has been residential design. His design approach is based on a recognition of the rich relationship we have with our homes through our senses, our rituals, our associations and our everyday practices and the ways that design can support and intensify that relationship. Each design has this aim within the parameters of: the potential and constraints of the property; the careful allocation of a budget; current building technology; and; building code and zoning requirements.
