FIRM PROFILE

Engaging an architect is the best investment you will make in your home. Building a home or renovating a home, regardless of the scale of the project, deserves professional design consideration. Too often design is given little importance or left to contractors or technicians with results that reduce the property's quality and value.

GSA has provided professional expertise in the design of homes, cottages, additions and renovations since 1998. The practice distinguishes itself both in its approach to service and to design.

GSA gears its service to the needs, resources and schedule of the client. Your needs may be limited to the drawings for a porch or may extend to a new home. The level of service is adaptable to your needs and budget. Design discussions are in your home at convenient times, often in the evenings. Fee proposals clearly spell out the tasks to be performed and the outcomes. As GSA is a sole-proprietorship, you deal with one individual in discussions and in the development of the project, allowing clear communications and accountability.

The design direction comes out of our discussions. There is no predetermined signature style imposed on the project. GSA helps you to recognize the design potential of your property. GSA helps you work with the style and construction of existing buildings. GSA helps you to optimize access to natural light and to develop the relationship of internal and external spaces related to the site's orientation and topography. GSA helps develop the composition of elements, the relationship and scale of spaces, the palette of materials and the details. GSA helps to make your home current with construction technology.

There is a bias in the firm's design approach towards quality over quantity, to making a ‘home' over a ‘house'. The building should be tailored to the way you will use the space, reflecting your priorities and your lifestyle.

The practice is registered under a Certificate of Practice with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and carries the required liability insurance. It participates in the required continuing education programs monitored by the Association. It is also qualified for registry with the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs to provide building design services, now required under Bill 124.
